    Hi all me again,
I have been waiting for my dad's army records since last August, apparently it takes 6 to 12 months. I know people are busy but surley not a whole year, the MOD have my money for that year. I suppose I am like a small child, I want I want. As i was always told " you know what what wanted".
Am I bad for thinking It really shouldn't take this long.

Good luck with that Sue - does sound a bit long to me.

While I'm here, I have recently heard from a reliable source that one of the Mk VII 6-inch guns at Ness Battery up here in Orkney came from Gibraltar. This would have been early(ish) 1938.
Does this ring any bells? Or even sound likely?

    Cheers,
    Andy.

Please can anyone give me any infomation on the Royal Artillery stationed in Gibralta. I have recently found out my grandfather was in the RGA 1st world war. For some obscure reason i believed my father Albert Henry Ault was in the Middlsex REGT, but he too it appears was in the Royal Artillery. He was stationed in Gibralta and i have tried too find any info i can on my father.
Please any help would be fantasic i dont know his army number or his battalion. He and my mother divorced in the early 1950s sadly he died in the 1870s.

From what I can see, the following RA units were based in Gib.

    82 (Essex) Heavy AA Regiment RA(TA) (July 40 - May 43)
    18 Defence Regiment RA (Apr 41 - Mar 44)
3 Light AA Regiment RA (Sep 41 - Aug 43)
3 Heavy Regiment RA (Sep 39 - Jan 41) became 3 Coast Regt.
    3 Coast Regiment RA (Jan 1941 - )
    19 Coast Regiment RA (Dec 42 - Mar 45)
    141 Light AA Regiment RA(TA) (Aug 43 - Mar 44)
10 Heavy AA Regiment RA (Dec 39 - Nov 40)
13 Heavy AA Regiment RA (Mar 41 - Dec 42)

Hello just found out my late father was originaly in the 3rd coast regt and then transfered dec 1942 to the close defence regt. Then redesignated to 19th coast regt 2nd feb 1943. can i ask please he was appointed as a U/L/bombadier can i ask please what this means. His records also give his blood group.

Rob Dickers 10th MEDIUM REGT RA

can i ask please he was appointed as a U/L/bombadier can i ask please what this means.

    Susanna
He was promoted to Unpaid Lance Bombardier (RA for L/Corpral)
Which means he did'nt get the extra pay thats goes with the rank, they usualy did this for a while then made them P/L/Bombardier (paid). Also near the end of the war if they did'nt need too many NCO's he could be reduced in rank but would'nt lose any money.

    Hi all,
well finally have my fathers army records after a long long wait nearly a year, but well worth the wait. Dad was in the 530 coast regt and also 3rd coast regt. he enlisted on 12/09/1940 and appears to have been atteste and posted to somewhere called the east block house ?. In 1941 he was in the 210 coast battery which was incorperated with the 530. his records also gave me his blood group.

    Hi all,
Long time no write but here goes.
Finally after nearly a whole year I received my fathers army records.
he was originaly posted to the No 2 C.D training battery R A.
On the 14 sept 1940 he was posted to somewhere called the east blockhouse ?
on the 10th oct 1940 he then went to 210 coast battery ? In 1941 210 coast battery was incorperated into the 530 coast regt. It was here he was posted to R.A depot woolwich pending embarkation. When he reached gibralta he disembarked and was posted to the 27th coast battery. He appears to go from regt to regt . his papers even give his blood group. also interesting are all the names of officers with their signatures. it is all very facinating but some of it I dont quite understand.
