    On the afternoon of 7th October 1943 the crew of this 604 Squadron Beaufighter V8557 took off from Scorton airfield to perform a flight test . An Army passenger Lt Kenneth Robert Hipkin was on board to gain flight experience. At 14.45hrs the aircraft stalled while attempting to make a steep turn at low level there was not enough height left to recover control of the aircraft and it crashed near Killerby Home Farm, south of Catterick airfield killing

    The same name and date of death obviously invites a close look at the circumstances, these reveal a tragic accident just a few hours after their marriage.
