Royal Marine artillery

I don't known if anyone can help in the interpretation of my father's Royal Marines record. I can see he came from basic training at Lympstone on 8.9.42 and went to Siege Regiment. This corresponds with his own verbal account where he said he volunteered to go to St Margaret's, Dover on cross channel guns. He said he was there for about six months. I can imagine an attachment could be for that sort of time span, but I'm also mindful that after 40 years plus anyone's memory can be patchy! (Just to clarify Dad is no longer with us, he died in 2002)
However, the military record then says on 17.12.42 (a bit over three months later) he was "serving 1 Field Battery" (attachment R.M. Siege Regt).
In his own verbal account he did also talk of volunteering for 25lb field gun battery and training as an Observation Post Assistant. He said the training was for about 8 months, but "we were so bad we were disbanded" (!)
What I'm wondering is, the entry for 17.12.42 still says 'attached to Siege Regiment' after saying 'serving 1 Field Battery'. Would anyone know if this was an administrative move to '1 Field Battery' but he actually remained with 'Siege Regiment' or was this maybe the move he mentioned when he volunteered for the '25lb Field gun battery'.?
I appreciate we may never know, but someone out there may have an angle on this!

Before this age he would have been too young to serve abroad.
But old enough to be posted to UK Units.

Thanks for that. So it seems likely that 1 Field Bty was simply an off shoot of the Siege Regiment, so may tie in with dad's own account of it then being disbanded when not very good!
