Although not very good quality this has to be my favourite picture with the chap posing as the 'Jimmy' (RCS Cap Badge)

Picture No 22 looks like basic training at Catterick Camp. The dress and buidling in the background are very similar to a photo in Edgar Harrisons book "Soldier - Patriot and Ultra Wireless Operator to Winston Churchill"

That is the last of the pictures you emailed me Alan. Many thanks for sharing them with us.

I think its safe to say at this moment in time he served in India, North Africa and Italy.

Hopefully some other members will comment on them too.

    Regards

Owen, Can you help out on this one ref his uniform as it looks pre WW2.

The photo has Richmond written on it which if memory serves me well is a town near Catterick. Catterick being the home of the Royal Signals pre-war I believe? I wonder if this was a photo taken whilst he was in basic training?

Alan has kindly sent me some scans of a logbook his father wrote in during the war which with his permission I've posted below for you.

Personaly for me that made rather interesting reading. Apart from the locations and distances travelled the notes are very similiar to the sort of thing I was writing home from Iraq, 'bad food' 'dusty' 'no washing or showers'. I'm surprised he didn't mention the heat though assuming it was hot during the day. I find it rather strange how sometimes things seem to have moved on very little in the military over such a long period of time.

Many thanks Alan for sharing them.

Can anyone make sense of the figures on the left? Pay related ?

    Regards
    Andy
