I am tracing a signaller Dennis Taylor #2586957 . I have traced him through Sierra Leone and the Gambia . He arrived in Egypt 27/7/41 and I cannot understand the next few postings

24/11/41 NO 1 Pub Address Unit GHQ Troops
    5/6/1942 X 1Y B 37 signals Park GHQ Troops
    9/4/43 3 CLY Sig Tp
    7/5/1943 98 FLD Regt S/S GHQ Troops

Could anyone help me with what these units did , whether they would have had War Diaries or whether they were part of larger units , and what actions they might have been involved in ? I think they might have been part of 38th Infantry Brigade itself part of 6th Armoured Division but the entries are not clear. I have initiated threads about this signaller before but I think this is a separate issue

Thanks for the responses . I knew he was wounded in the invasion of Sicily from his service records but confirmation is always good and the casualty list entry has a bit more info than his service records .Could Tony 56 tell me how to access such records , my searches draw a blank . As to A Force a fascinating possibility . I am going to ask the Royal Signals Museum if they can throw any light on the various units on his record . Anything of general interest I will post . Thanks again

The 98th Field Regiment, RA, were 8th Army HQ Troops (this will be the GHQ reference) and XIII Corps troops for the Operation Husky landings in Sicily on 10 July 1943. At this time they operated Self-Propelled 105mm Priests.

XIII Corps included the 5th and 50th Infantry Divisions, both assault Divisions for the Husky landings on 10 July 1943.

Prior to his posting to the 98th Field Regiment, he was with the 3CLY - this is the 3rd County of London Yeomany, 4th Armoured Brigade, which was also part of the XIII Corps assault units for the Husky landings on 10 July 1943; War Diary link here: 3rd County of London Yeomanry (3rd Sharpshooters)

Your man was wounded on the day of landings.

Ahhh - so Apr/May 1943 the Desert War is 'over' and Husky is in view, so if he was part of A force then the deception were no longer needed and he could return to "normal duties"

This is a guess on my part

This is so helpful . I am beginning to fill in the gaps , I have found the convoy reference which took him from Freetown to Suez , all that is left are the two postings from 24/11/41 ie public address unit and then 5/6/42 ie 37 signals park .I have also identified the field hospital in Tunisia where he recovered after being wounded on the first day of the Sicily landings .

Any ideas on 37 Signals Park please ?

    Thanks Clive
