    Hello all.

Can anyone help with a reference for the WD for No.4 Independent Company in 1940 (the Norway campaign).

I thought it would be part of the S.Lancs collection, but its not.

The Regimental History makes no mention of 4 IC - despite it containing many 1/4 and 2/4 S.lancs men, nor is there and mention of 4 Troop, 2 Commando, which likewise received men from 4 IC.

Any books titles on the campaign also appreciated.

    Pete

    I would check this file:

WO 218/11 3 Indep. Coy. 1940 Apr.- Nov.

Norway related files should be listed in WO 168 but as you can see this is in WO 218 which is Special Services. I'm fairly certain its the unit as there wasn't any obvious units like the SAS etc (apart from Phantom and Commandos) in 1940 - That I'm aware of.

Many thanks - that looks like it, as the dates correspond to the life of the unit. I was a bit taken aback not to find it in the WO 168. My father served in it but was placed back on the Reserve at the end of June 1940 while the unit was training at Lochailort, to his disgust. He spent the next 2 years in the Home Guard in North Woolwich.
