Hi folks could any one tell me what parent battalion the Scottish Horse belong to as my wife's grandfather served with them. His no is 1094999 name Thomas Berwick. What part Italy were they in during the Christmas period of 1943. Help much appreciated.
His Army number is from block allocated to RA. Royal Artillery (Field, Coastal & Anti-Aircraft) 721001 - 1842000 and 11000001 - 11500000 http://www.regiments.org/regiments/uk/volmil-scotland/vcav/ScotHors.htm <TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=1 width=580 align=left border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top align=left width=85 height=20>1940.02.15</TD><TD vAlign=top align=left colSpan=3 height=20>The Scottish Horse Regiment, RA</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top align=left width=20 height=20></TD><TD vAlign=top align=left width=85 height=20>1940.04.15</TD><TD vAlign=top align=left width=477 height=20>79th (The Scottish Horse) Medium Regiment, RA redesignated at Welbeck, Worksop, on formation of duplicate 80th Medium Regt, with A Bty and B Bty </TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top align=left width=20 height=20></TD><TD vAlign=top align=left width=85 height=20>1942.04.11</TD><TD vAlign=center align=left width=477 height=20>batteries redesignated P and Q</TD></TR><TR><TD vAlign=top align=left width=20 height=20></TD><TD vAlign=top align=left width=85 height=20>1943.01.01</TD><TD vAlign=center align=left width=477 height=20>batteries redesignated 108 and 109 Story from BBC People's War Website about Scottish Horse. http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/stories/38/a2493038.shtml It looks like your wife's Grandfather was in 80th Med Regt as they were the ones in Italy. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

No problem,I still haven't answered your query about where they were for Christmas 1943 but should be a bit easier to find now. A troop of the 80th Medium which came under the CRA's command for CB work on the 23rd was therefore most welcome http://www.nzetc.org/tm/scholarly/tei-WH2Arti-c16.html Good article here. 80th Med Regt gets only one mention, for 23rd November 1943. Lots of maps though.
