HAZZARD, John, Seaman, RNPS, LT/JX 221423, DOW [EAST WEMYSS CEMETERY]

His ship was HMT Cypress, he is listed by ADM104/131 as being killed by enemy action and dying at RNH Haslar. naval-history says was killed by a mining, but I have not been able to confirm if the trawler was damaged. Any ideas?

  2. Just a comment. Your questions seem to assume that if there are casualties, then the ship must have been damaged. That is far from the case. Ships that receive no damage or no reportable damage can have casualties.

In the case of one individual killed by a mine while serving on a minesweeper, the answer may be simply that when destroying a floating mine by small arms fire, a seaman was killed by splinters from the casing.
