Hi, I'm thinking of doing my history dissertation on the Second BEF in France after Dunkirk in 1940 and was wondering if anyone had read or knew any good books on the subject. Their doesn't seem to be a lot written here are the ones I know about: Sean Longden, Dunkirk: the Men they Left Behind Bill Innes, St Valery: The impossible Odds Patrick Takle, The British Army in France after Dunkirk Basil Karslake, 1940 The Last Act: The Story of the British Forces in France after Dunkirk These are all good, but I'm trying to find more and ideally any academic standard account. Thanks for any help.
Not a book but this link may be of help: HyperWar: London Gazette No. 37573 Also this thread here: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/1940/28599-2nd-bef.html Cheers Mark
Not an area I've looked at in great detail although I have a few of the units war diaries. I suspect for an indepth look you would have to visit Kew. I think both Vols of Assignment to Catastrophe by Maj Gen Spears will be up your street for a more political point of view.
Possibly a bit late as not published until June 2022, Troubador Timandra Slade - From a Hard Place to a Rock: First-Hand Accounts of Soldiers of the British Expeditionary Force on the Run in World War Two From A Hard Place To A Rock - Troubador Book Publishing
