Wanted: Date/Location Specific Photos/Stories for 9th British Infantry Brigade in Normandy Mapping Project

I am in the process of putting together a Geo Location mapping exercise in partnership with Project '44 that will cover 9th British Infantry Brigade's advance through Normandy between 6 June and the end of August 1944.

If anyone has any imagery and/or personal accounts relating to specific people/events during this period in relation to:
    • 2nd Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles
    • 1st Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers
    • 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment
    • East Riding Yeomanry
    • 33 Field Regiment
    • No 3 Platoon, 253 Field Company
    • 101 Anti Tank Battery
    • 9 Field Ambulance
that they would like to be considered for possible inclusion then please post within thread or PM me with details.

In particular interested in any images/acounts that can be tagged to specific:
    • location
    • date
    • unit
    • names of those shown (if known)
    • citation/reference
If you haven't seen the Project44 website then I would highly recommend a review, to date it has focused on Canadian troops movements but there is some excellent detail, including unit locations and various map overlays (that includes a 1946 French Government aerial photos of the entire area for reparation claims - see below).

Some examples of the type of thing I would like to include are shown below, there may also be an opportunity to add some background stories/detail where appropriate...

    Cheers.

P.S. Admins: if this is in wrong location and/or should be copied to individual Unit Threads then please let me know/move as appropriate...

On the right are Rifleman McNaul from County Antrim and Rifleman Charles with his Bren Gun (subsequently awarded the Military Medal for his actions on 18th July outside Troarn (IWM).

    Hi

I'm late to this as only just joined WW2 talk - here is a picture of my dad John W Best 7896980 who was a trooper (a fitter he said) in 1 ERY, he's the one in the middle with fag in mouth. I believe the vehicle is a half track (he always said he had one) and if you look there's a quirky cockerel on the right of the bumper!

I also believe this is a picture in Normandy when they were in the 27 Armoured Brigade as you can just make out the triangle marking on the door which looks more blue than yellow so I think means its A squadron of the junior regiment and that was ERY in the 27th.

    Hope this helps, Paul

Thanks for the pic and welcome to the forum, any idea where this picture was taken? If it can't be geo-located then if OK with you I will add to a (th British Infantry Brigade website that I am still in the process of putting together.

    Cheers.

    Quis- go ahead

Owen - only reason I assumed it was Normandy is the truck marking. If it is Holland or Belgium it will be after 27th were broken up in August and ERY joined the 33rd as 2nd regiment.

If the truck is theirs then the marking is actually yellow - hard to tell
