TD - CWGC gives age at death in 1945 as 24 so one of your second suggestion sounds more likely.

Wow, fast work chaps. As Tim has mentioned he was 24 at death so 1920/21 would be year of birth.

AFAIK Tyne and Wear used to be part of County Durham up until the mid 70's?

Thats the problem with Ancestry - he doesnt appear in the CWGC database they have transcribed

    Still leaves choice of 2

TD, not sure why ancestry don't have him from CWGC database but it may have something to do with the fact that he has no known grave but is remembered on the Groesbeek Memorial. I think the Tyne and Wear chap may be our man, as Tyne and Wear was part of County Durham until failry recently and CWGC has him listed as born in County Durham?

Assuming Tyne & Wear was part of Durham County as you mention then the mothers maiden name was Howell, and that provides siblings

Henry Hubbick 1918 South Shields Tyne & Wear

Norman Hubbick 1921 South Shields Tyne & Wear

Eleanor Hubbick 1923 South Shields Tyne & Wear

Alice Hubbick 1919 South Shields Tyne & Wear

    Name: Norman Hubbick
    Registration Date: 1921
    Registration district: South Shields
    Inferred County: Tyne & Wear
    Re-registration Year: 1921
    Mother's Maiden Name: Howell
    Volume Number: 10a
    Page Number: 2034

From the above and checking the 1939 Register
    1939 England and Wales Register
    Name: George Hubbick Jnr
    Gender: Male
    Marital Status: Single
    Birth Date: 6 May 1925
    Residence Year: 1939
    Address: 31
    Residence Place: Jarrow, Durham, England
    Occupation: Shop Boy Newsagents
    Schedule Number: 140
    Sub Schedule Number: 4
    Enumeration District: FFWA
    Registration district: 556A-1
    Inferred Father: George Hubbick
    Inferred Mother: Isabella Hubbick
    Household Members:
    Name
    George Hubbick
    Isabella Hubbick
    Elanor Hubbick
    George Hubbick

    This shows his sister Eleanor
    Name: Elanor Hubbick
    [Eleanor Henderson]
    Gender: Female
    Marital Status: Single
    Birth Date: 4 Aug 1920

So we can assume that Normans parents were Geroge [Snr] and Isabella [nee Howell]

Norman however is proving difficult to track/trace

Just looked up County Durham on Wikipedia and my memory was a wee bit faulty, it was South Shields that moved from County Durham to Tyne and Wear. The result is the same though and I think we have our man.

I had a wee internet search on George, the younger brother, and turned up an entry at MyHeritage site which lists a George Hubbick born in 1925 and who died in 2003 at the age of 77.

So it's a fair bet than none of the sibling are still with us. Most likely nephews and nieces who would themselves be quite old now! Still quite a lot of info in such a short period of time. Thanks TD, you never fail to come through mate and you are a real asset to this forum.

There are 2 other routes that may or may not work, one is to try Farcebrook as sometimes families do there trees on there now and not on sites like Ancestry, and also try 192.com using the surname and a rough locality, as often people dont really move that far - especailly as you have here a unique surname - apparently there are still some Hubbicks living in the Northumberland region - if the surname was Smith then I would not suggest it.

As another option as you did with MyH site, try any/all others depending on how desperate you are to find them.

Its a shame that CL1 is not active anymore as he could have contacted the CWGC with info about Normans actual date of birth and his parents and wifes name to 'complete' the file

Thanks for that TD, I have just had a spin through the BT phonebook looking for Hubbick's in Jarrow but none shown. I shall also try Facebook in a mo and have a query in with my contacts in the RE Museum/Library. I'm due to go down there on August 10th as well, on a seperate matter. With regards to CWGC, I'm already in touch with them re this and between their records and my research it is just possible that we can locate Norman's grave after all these years. See my other post on 13 Fd Sqn, posts #1 and the follow-up post #8.

Prior to the 1974 boundary changes and creation of the Metropolitan County of Tyne and Wear, the boundary between Northumberland and Co Durham at the eastern end was the River Tyne. North Shields and Newcastle were in Northumberland. South Shields and Sunderland were in Co Durham, as was Jarrow. After the changes all were in Tyne & Wear.

    Best,

    Steve.

Steve, thanks for confirming that info mate.

TD, I've just done a 192.com search on Hubbick's in Jarrow and have come up with about six people, all of whom seem to be connected to each other. Got to assume that they are descendants of of one, or both, of Norman's two brothers. I think I'll leave it there and just pass all this stuff onto CWGC and let them take it from there. Thanks agin for all your help mate.

Can you hold fire on sending details to CWGC - there's some details I need to ratify first

Hi TD, having a spin through MyHeritiage and there does appear to be only one Noman Hubbick born in England in 1921 and that would appear to be our chap "Norman Hubbick , b.1921 South Shields Tyne & Wear". If I do a search on 192.com for modern Hubbick in South Shields it turns up only six entries, five of which are in Jarrow and one in Wallsend. Given the uniqueness of the surname and the location I've got to assume there is a connection between the modern family in Jarrow and Norman's birth. Whoever the family in Tynemouth Road in 1939 I've got to assume that they are related to Norman! As you said earlier, if we were dealing with someone called Jones it wouldn't be so clear cut.
