I am hoping that someone can help me with information on Sergeant Alfred William Robus. He served with 10 Platoon, T Company, Ist Parachute Battalion and was awarded an M.M for Arnhem. His number was 5678213.

I know nothing about his service before or after Arnhem or much about his involvement in the battle itself.

If anyone can point me in the right direction to start my search and even perhaps find a photo of the man I would be very grateful.

Robus was wounded on the 25th September, probably during the evacuation, but managed to get back across the Rhine and was admitted to No 3 Casualty Clearing Station on the 26th September. As TD suggests your best course of action would be to obtain a copy of his service records for details of his service before and after Arnhem

£300 for Airborne Forces Fund – Collection at Yeovil Cinema

A total of £306 17s 6d was raised for the Airborne Forces Security Fund at the Gaumont Palace last week as a result of collections and the sale of plaques and souvenirs during the showing of the film “Theirs is the Glory”.
Among former airborne men who saw the film were Messrs. A.W. Robus (Yeovil), L.H.J. Chivers (Sparkford), F. Downton (Sherborne), A. Cunningham (Misterton) and W. Green.
On Saturday night, when the Mayor (Mr. B. Dening) made another appeal, Flight-Sergt. W. Surrey, an ex-paratroop instructor, presented a beret and a model of the first plane used for paratroop jumping for auction. Auctioned by Mr. S.G. Fowler, the two raised £10 10s. A paratroop doll, made by Mrs. D.P. Davis, of Larkhill-avenue, was also auctioned.
The Manager (Mr. Philip E. Davey) is grateful to all those who contributed and members of the G.T.C. and A.T.C. who made the collections in the foyer.

If you are not aware, you can watch the film here:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiFeYxlPYy4

    Foreward
‘Theirs is the Glory’ has been produced entirely without the use of studio sets or actors. Every incident was either experienced or witnessed by the people who appear in the film’.

‘It was in September 1944 that the men of the First airborne Division made their heroic stand at Arnhem. One year later survivors returned to the actual battlefield amid the ruins of Arnhem truthfully to re-enact and record for all time this most gallant action in which they had gained the admiration even of the enemy. This film is a tribute to every man who fought at Arnhem and an everlasting memorial to those who gave their lives’.

    Perhaps he is there?

Many thanks ,Tony. I have not seen this before.

I do not have a photo of Arthur Robus so, sadly, would be unable to identify him.

    Hi CFRC,

There is a photo of Sergeant Robus in a 2012 Soethby's auction PDF that listed his medals and other items for sale. I'll add it here with a touch more contrast and slightly smaller than original.

Serjeant Alfred William Robus.jpg Sgt. Robus, Item 453.jpg

Later - Here's the complete item listing in case there's a problem with downloading PDF.

    Regards ...

    Folks,

A word of caution, this is a great site for people who Fake medals and then sell them on to gather their information. I was contacted on the 16th Dec by the Op (the day he joined) that he had spotted my Grandfathers medals pointed me in the direction of them turns out they are fakes.

    Beware

Hope you are all aware of libel laws.

I spotted some medals on a well known dealers medal site named to a CH Upperton. When I googled the name I came across Steve-Sussex By The Sea's thread. I told him that the medals were being advertised for sale and said if he was interested to contact the medal dealer - who in my experience is entirely reputable. The medals had by then been sold on-line. I understand that Steve contacted the dealer who put him in touch with the buyer and he arranged to purchase them. I have never seen the medals except on-line and I am not connected with the dealer.

I have told Steve he needs to contact the dealer to tell them of his concerns no arrange for a refund.

I suggest people check their facts before jumping to unfounded and offensive conclusions.
