Hi Everyone, I want to go and see a Sherman Firefly - anyone know where they reside in the Northwest?, do they come out and play? Kindest Regards.
This might help in tracking down what's where. It usually seems pretty solid: The Afv Register: Selected Afv (Use the drop-downs to narrow the search to different models of Firefly). And of course, The Shadock's list of Fireflies: http://the.shadock.free.fr/Surviving_Sherman_Fireflies.pdf But I don't think it quite reflects the number in Private hands in the UK, if the turnouts at Beltring over the years are anything to go by.
They're all over the place round here. It's hard to drive anywhere without seeing one (OK, I exaggerate a little !) WRA TANKS: HECHTEL Operation Market Garden Tour – Leopoldsburg - Leopoldsburg, Belgium - VirtualTourist.com
Came across this one today. Caption said it is a 17 pdr AP embedded in Tiger I armor. Looks about right. If the shot is 76mm, the plate is about 120mm.
That lump is constantly cited as 'Tiger armour'. Think it may even have made it into books as such. Sure it isn't really. It's cut from a large piece of test plate and I think is on display at Bovington. Possible I had more detail on what trial it came from... Equally possible not.
Yes it is at Bovy. You can wiggle the broken end of the projectile . Photo from Feb 17. (sure I posted it on here before)
