I am looking for any info on Cpl C Real 7371113 parent company R. A. M. C. Who is on my grandfathers movement orders. Both were Special Operations Mediterranean, the orders send them to No 1 Special Force (S.O.E Italy) then to 2nd Independent parachute brigade in Rome for the 1st Jan 1945. (off to Athens I think) it says The authority for this move is HQ SO (M) You get no hits for them on military records sites, apparently if you were operational in the Balkans or carried on working for the government after the war then they ain't there. So the national archive video says about S. O. E Balkan combat units. It's a long shot, but I have met other people who had relations who served in these elite units using this site. Thanks.

    Hi

I know of one Royal Engineer officer of 2 Ind Para Bde who was temporarily transferred into SOE (Force 133) and then parachuted into Greece to make a reconnaissance of all of the airfields in and around Athens and report their condition prior to its liberation. He did get a MC for his efforts, although no official recommendation at TNA exists

It was at very short notice as the original team for this mission had all been killed when their Dakota flying mover from Italy crashed in to a mountain after suffering engine failure before anyone could get out. I can only assume he was approached as he already was a experienced parachutist.

2 Ind Para Bde were in Greece from 14 October 1944 to 29 January 1945.

They did have a depot in Italy, so he may have been there.

2 Ind Para Bde remained in Italy from early February 1945 until the end of the war and ended up in Palestine a short while later.

    Hope this helps

    Gus

Thanks Gus. Rare breed them fellas, unknown. All these little stories help. Do you know the name of the Officer? I will see if I come across any info. I was just looking at the 2nd independent parachute brigade war diary Dec 44-Jan 45 I photographed at kew. There's some good hand drawn maps done in the field and some info on street fighting, the water situation things like that. Gives you a bit of a picture of life on the ground. Officers always complaining about the state of the men saying they are wearing what they want etc, seems like a tough bunch.
    Nice one.
