Thanks once again Michel, I'll be digesting this further info this afternoon.

A few old files from the papers of my father in law who was in the HQ section of the 176 Workshop and Park Company. The HQ On The Job Summer Cruise may have been written by him but I can't be sure as no signature. The other documents are the Company magazine started in April ish 1945. The back page of No.10 has a poem about the Company Clerks in the Company of which Ron was one. George is Sergeant George Dixon (still to do some fact finding on him) who remained friends with Ron for the rest of their lives. Has anyone got anymore of the 176 Reviews?

    Hi Nigel
Just came across this thread. I believe my grandfather was a lorry driver with the 176 workshop and park company carrying the anti tank platoon. His name was William Strathearn. He landed on D Day from an American troopship, I am wondering if you have came across his name during your research?

Hi, I’m on holiday at the moment but will have a look when I’m back next week. The spreadsheet I included higher up might answer your question though. Note there are quite a few tabs on the sheet where the info might be.

Good news, I have the war diary as photos on my phone so found his name mentioned in one of the months so will send details next week.

That's absolutely brilliant and greatly appreciated. My grandfather didn't speak much of his time in the war until he was in his mid eighties and this was the first anyone knew of his involvement with d day. He died 4 years ago after suffering dementia and I still think there were stories to tell.

I have a big picture of the unit which is I guess before departure. I scanned it at very high resolution so I could zoom in on all the faces. I have the list of names for the picture too and your grandfather is on it. It’s 38MB so I would probably need to send it to you by Dropbox or similar. Can you pm me with an email address and I’ll sort that out next week. He was in the Workshop part of the company and my father in law was in the HQ part but I’m certain they would have know each other. Do you have any old photos of his from the war or any other paperwork?

I agree it's highly likely they would have known each other. His best mate was another driver called William Meetchum (I'm not 100% on the spelling) Bill came from near Middlesbrough and they wrote to each other regularly until Bill died in the 1990s.My parents have a small number of photos I will try and get them scanned and emailed next week. They also have his service record so we know he was injured although this was caused by a water pump exploding whilst at rest.
