    Subject:- Steel Tracks for Shermans.

    4th June 1943

    MOST SECRET

    C.E.M.E. 2 [Base] Wksps.

    1. Recent experiments at the M.E.E. with Sherman Tracks have shown that

    (a) Fabricated steel tracks are satisfactory and are considered to be battle worthy without modification.

    (b) Cast steel tracks can be made to give satisfactory service on a fighting tank, but only at the expense of extension and troublesome modifications.

    2. It has therefore been agreed that

    (a) Rubber or fabricated steel tracks will be used on fighting tanks as available.

    (b) Cast steel tracks without modification will be used for tanks for "Scorpions".

    (c) as adequate supplies of rubber and fabricated steel tracks are at present available, no cast steel tracks will be modified for use on fighting tanks.
