Captain Stephen Martin Patrick Conway, Royal Army Medical Corps, was awarded the Military Cross at El Alamein. On the morning of October 28th, 1942, the position to which we had advanced during the night was the object of heavy and intense enemy shellfire and numerous casualties were caused. For more than three hours Captain Conway made unceasing journeys rendering aid to wounded personnel in that locality. All ranks were forced by this shellfire to take cover either in their tanks or dug positions, but Captain Conway, without a thought for his personal safety, continued to carry out his duty even to the extent of visiting areas where casualties might have occurred.
