Evening all, Looking for any maps/documents outlining the sub-areas lined out for the Italian campaign? Thanks
Hello Mongol UK, I am probably being exceedingly dim, but what exactly do you mean by a 'sub area'? Vitellino
I'm not really sure.... Looking into archive records, and there's areas and sub-areas listed. I assume that the map was divided up into specific zones, and hoped that someone has a list that states what each one is...?
Hi, in NW Europe the Lines of Communication organisation (eg 21 Army Group’s logistic organisation) was split into areas (at one point 11 and 12 Areas) and then these were split down into separate Sub-Areas. I imagine it was the same in Italy. I think there was an Administrative Official history of the Italian campaign which would hopefully give more details at different points. Tom
I'm not sure yet haha. I'm collating record lists from the archives with a view of tracking my grandads route through Italy with Phantom. Eventually I'll work out where he was, and I'm sifting through what records may be of use at that point. I have quite a few lists of files to wade through first, which should then pinpoint locations. I'm trying to think outside of the box as to what may or may not hold tid bits of info, that others may not have looked at. Thanks
MongoUK At the risk of "muddying the water", go have a look at this thread about an old friend of mine named Syd Tabor: 11th Field Ambulance & 'Phantom' questions Ron
Thanks Ron. Yes that's it, Phantom being the Liaison regiment monitoring developments on the battlefield in real time. The issue is, is that the regiment was divided into Squadrons, that was then divided into Patrols. These patrols were then assigned to different units. I believe I've worked out some of his squadron timeline, but not down to Patrol level yet. The search continues!
