I have been using the Newspaper Archives a lot recently in order to find info on men from 23rd Hussars. I soon learnt that 'creative' searches sometimes produced surprising results. Here's a case in point: London men are usually a nightmare to trace, so I just used '8 Credon Bermondsey' as the search term - and got this: Kilmarnock Herald, 21 Jul 1944 Wow! Full tank crew - names, roles, even addresses. Doesn't get any better than this - but then reality set in: 549744 Sjt Arthur James McConnell was KIA on 18 Jul 1944 (with a different tank crew). In fact he was already dead by the time the above article was published. Damn.
