Hi All I'm trying to find the citation for T Gouldborough 4347988, 5th Battalion East Yorks, believed it was earned at the Wadi Akarit , April 1943 possible the same time as Eric Andersons VC ( found his citation). Met T Gouldboroughs granddaughter, she has lots of information and photo's but not how he won the MM. Cheers Dave

He was wounded in the shoulder during the action for which he was awarded his M.M. He was also wounded in Normandy : On 2nd August 1944 an attack was launched by the 69th Brigade to the North East of Amaye-sur-Seulles where the strong hill feature to the West of Villiers Bocage was attacked against small arms fire.
"69th Infantry Brigade, 50th (N) Division 4347988 (Acting Corporal) Private Thomas GOULDSBOROUGH, 5th Battalion THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT During the morning of 6th April 1943, this unit was taking part in an attack on the enemy positions in the Wadi Akarit. Two of the forward companies were temporarily held up by heavy machine gun fire from well concealed positions. Two 3" mortar sections were called upon to assist the infantry in overcoming this opposition. Cpl. GOULDSBOROUGH was one of the section leaders. With total disregard for his own safety he went forward to observe and direct the fire of his own section. The position the mortars had to take up offered no cover, but this did not deter the Cpl. from carrying on with the task in hand. He was consistently sniped and machine-gunned and was eventually wounded in the shoulder. He refused to leave his section, and only did so on the order of a superior officer, who gave him the 'cease fire'. His coolness and devotion to duty showed an example to his section, and greatly helped in the success of the attack."
Cheers everyone I have passed on the information including the war diaries for that period also maps and photo's. Also gave them the link to get his war records. In their words "they are over the moon". Dave
