Tallyho Gazette was a newsletter of 56 Recce published daily whenever circumstances (operational) permited. Copies were sent to each Sqn for notice-board exhibition. It was edited by the Regiments "I" Section.

I was reading this last week, the 56th Recce giving their name to Tally Ho corner in Tunisia. Its a great read, and a brilliant source for historians.

"Tally Ho", was a copy of the 2nd Bn Coldstream newsletter, the "Medjez mail" which had the distinction of being the first unit newsletter in Tunisian North Africa. ;)

Looks like the title “Tally-ho” was also used by 3 Recce. In “The Reconnaissance Journal” (Vol 1 No 3), kindly posted by Tony, it shows an extract. Although not mentioned by name, the three officers were in 3 Recce and the Regiment was the Royal Northumberland Fusilier regiment of the Corps. (50 Recce, formerly 4 NF, having been split into independent machine gun companies by this time).

What is interesting is that 3 Recce’s War Diary for 26 June 1944 states, “Regt publish 1st copy of Regt news entitled “Blitz and Pieces.” What happened to that and why use a title already used by another Recce regiment? Has anyone come across a copy of “Blitz and Pieces.”? I don’t remember seeing one in 3 Recce’s War Diary file.

    Richard.
