    Apologies if already posted. Found this whilst searching for the Spit v Me109 answer.

    Saturday, 30th September, 1939.

    150 Squadron Battle K9283.

    Badly damaged by Bf109s of 2/JG53 west of Saarbrucken during photo-reconnaissance sortie. Believed that attacked by Uffz. Wurmheller 11.10 hrs. Returned to base but crashed on landing due to burst tyre and caught fire.

    Squadron Leader W M L MacDonald unhurt. Sergeant F H Gardiner and AC1 A Murcar both injured and burned, admitted to hospital in Chalons. Aircraft a write-off.

    Gardiner received a BEM on December 8th; MacDonald a DFC and Murcar a DFM the following February.
