The final paragraph:

But what stands out for me is Hazarika’s description of those Indian POWs who fell outside the INA, for one of several reasons, and who as a result have tended to be forgotten, especially in the modern retelling of the INA story in India. Modern India knows all about Subhas Chandra Bose, or thinks it does. It likewise knows all about the INA, or thinks it does. But as this book demonstrates, there was more than one INA and there were many scores of POWs who have not been remembered because their experience sat outwith that of Mohan Singh or SCB. This deficiency in our memory of the lost POWs of the Second World War is powerfully rectified by Hazarika: he unflinchingly describes the impact of an ‘Asia for the Asiatics’ on India POWs who became not much more than slaves at the hands of a rapacious empire that ended up leaving perhaps 20-million dead in its wake. These men deserve our remembrance and our understanding. In this fine study Hazarika is to be congratulated for doing precisely this
