Fine site from what I've read so far, with an exceptionally clear clickable method of illustrating organisation/location/bunkers etc.: THE GERMAN 15TH ARMY AT THE ATLANTIKWALL ~A
The 'Chapters' on the fall of the Boulogne, Dunkirk & Calais Fortresses are an excellent read: Festung Boulogne FESTUNG DÜNKIRCHEN Verteidigungsbereich Calais
I agree , a most excellent account of the Canadians on that long left flank. Good find. One should not forget, the 3 Army Groups Royal Artillery (one Cdn) with 13 British Med & Heavy Regts. The taking of the Channel Ports were major engagements for the British Army Groups RA, requiring massive expenditure of ammunition by their 13 Medium & Heavy Regts, + the British AA & Field Regts Rob
Just reading about the Dunkirk Festung - that poor town didnt fare well in WW2 did it?? Excellent site by the way. Just noted this passage on the article "The garrison of 12,000 men could only produce 8,000 able to fight, for 3,000 were medically unfit, and 1000 - mostly Poles and Austrians - were considered unreliable and were not entrusted with arms." I could understand not arming the Poles, but the Austrians would surely have been more reliable.
Maybe a bit offtopic but Ben Muller has made a nice book about the Festung Boulogne. Luckily not only about the German fortifications but also about the attack, with the use of a lot Canadian documents. Greetings Jack.
