The best of Kiki Dee on cassette! ooerrrr... I've come over all peculiar. Sort of... queasy. Whole Wide World - Wreckless Eric.
"White Cliffs of Dover," Vera Lynn. Actually, the songs that have been going through the old brain that last couple of days are Marty Robins's "El Paso" and Joan Baez's "House of the Rising Sun." I heard on the radio a few days ago "House of the Rising Sun" sung by (I think) one of the British groups back in the 60s or 70s. Haven't heard "El Paso," so don't know why it's playing. Yikes! I must be hearing things. JT

Hole In My Pocket - Sheryl Crow. Wasn;t House fo the Rising Sun doen by The Stranglers? Or have I got my groups mixed up again? The Animals, but they had to change the words because they're not girls. According to folklorist Alan Lomax in his book Our Singing Country (1941), the melody of "The House of the Rising Run" is a traditional English ballad and the lyrics were written by Georgia Turner and Bert Martin (both from Kentucky). The song was first recorded in the 1920s by black bluesman Texas Alexander and later covered by Leadbelly, Charlie Byrd, Roy Acuff, Woody Guthrie, the Weavers, Peter, Paul & Mary, Henry Mancini, Dolly Parton, David Allan Coe, John Fahey, Waylon Jennings, Tim Hardin, Buster Poindexter, Marianne Faithful, Tracy Chapman and Bob Dylan, among others. Here from Lomax's book are the traditional lyrics : There is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun. It's been the ruin of many a poor girl, and me, O God, for one. JT
