    Biographical Notes: Justice of the Peace. 'COL. ELLWOOD ---------- "Presumed Killed in Action at Sea" Official news has now been received that Colonel A. A. Ellwood, DSO. MC, OBE, JP. CC, of the Manor House, Mareham-le-Fen, is presumed to have been killed in action at sea during March this year. Col. Ellwood was reported missing about three months ago. Col. Ellwood enrolled in the 1st Volunteer Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment in 1902, when his father was Commanding Officer. Commissioned in 1907 he was the last officer to be commissioned in the Battalion before re-organisation in the Territorial Force. He was mobilised in August 1914 and became Brigade machine gun officer and served throughout the last war with machine guns, and gained the DSO, OBE AND MC. He went to India as second in command of a machine gun battalion in the period after the Armistice, and was subsequently in command of the 4th Battn. Lincolnshire Regiment. His wife was formerly a Miss Scorer. He farmed at Mareham-le-Fen, and was a JP on the Horncastle Bench. His brother, Lieut. C. H. Ellwood, was killed in the last war. A memorial service will be held at Mareham-le-Fen on Sunday at 3 p.m. Lincolnshire Standard 17th July 1943. ELLWOOD- Previously reported missing, now presumed to have been killed in action at sea in March, Colonel A. A. Ellwood, D.S.O., O.B.E., M.C., T.D., much loved husband of Winifred, Manor House, Mareham, Boston, Lincs. Memorial service at Mareham-le-Fen Church on Sunday, 18th July 1943. Lincolnshire Standard Obits 17th July 1943. BRAVE SOLDIER -------- Memorial Service for Col. Ellwood. A memorial service to the late Colonel Ellwood, DSON., OBE., MC., JP., CC., of the Manor House Farm, presumed killed in action during March last, was held at the Parish Church, Mareham-le-Fen, on Sunday afternoon. The service was conducted by the Rector (Rev. J. H. T. Renshaw) who made reference to the sterling qualities that Colonel Ellwood possessed, the high rank he attained and the distinctions he had achieved. The Rector also read extracts from letters which have been received from comrades serving with and under him testifying to his gallantry and unselfishness at the time of the tragic occurrence. The Rector thought the village had lost a true friend. Among those attending were etc etc. Louth Standard 24th July 1943.
