Just spotted this thread and I have skimmed quickly through it. I came across this information in 2018 whilst researching an incident involving another unit of the British Indian Army, led by Stanley Menezes.

He was interviewed by the IWM Oral History in 2003 (seventeen reels) and on Reel 3 when Menezes was in Landi Kotal in September 1945 refers to an attack on a Wiltshire Regt. picket. My notes of his comments: The picket post were approached by local tribesmen and asked if they wanted women, they replied yes. The tribesmen later returned at night, tricked their way into the picket and massacred them all. Link: Menezes, Stanley (Oral history)

It was the 1st Bn., who were in India till August 1947, at times they were deployed on peace keeping duties in Calcutta, Jullundur, Amritsar and Lahore. From: http://www.thewardrobe.org.uk/resea...ltshire-regiment-duke-of-edinburghs-1920-1959

I was unable in online research to identify this incident.

HMS SKIPJACK then spent five weeks refitting at Grimsby and then sailed for Dover on 26th May in preparation for the evacuation of Dunkirk. On 1st June she was off Dunkirk (La Panne) and was subjected to repeated air attacks. Except when troops were boarding she circled at full speed to avoid the attacks. By 0800 only 12 rounds of 4" ammunition were left for each gun. By 0844, 275 troops had boarded when ten Ju88's attacked SKIPJACK and she was hit by two bombs. She lost way and developed a heavy list to port. Another three bombs hit the ship and at 0849 she turned turtle, remaining afloat for about 20 minutes. Survivors in the water were attacked by enemy aircraft. The majority of the troops were trapped in the hull. Nineteen crew and 275 troops were killed.
