I came across a couple of documents related to the Snake anti-mine device at LAC on Friday and I thought I'd share them. The photos and data sheet are from something called Data On Devices produced in October 1944. What's the general protocol for sharing images? Should I just embed them even if they're large?
When you upload them, there's an option to embed either the photo or its thumbnail. I'd vote for thumbnail as a thread full of full images can take ages to load.
Huh um I didn't see that option. But I uploaded them here to an album... Snake trial by Seroster posted May 9, 2017 at 8:22 PM Snake images by Seroster posted May 9, 2017 at 8:21 PM Snake specifications by Seroster posted May 9, 2017 at 8:20 PM
Thanks Chris - always good to see something about the 79th Armd Div. Nice little piece on the Snake, and the similar Conger, on the BBC People's war site here
Thanks a lot for the docus Chris! Like a big Bangalore torpedo, I have been blow up a couple of those and bit of barbed wire obstacle with them during my assault engineer training decades ago. Always have had high regard on the British Army because of the 79th Armd Div. Somebody put an efford to give the poor assault engineers better chances. The other WWII army which did something for safety of their assault engineers was a bit surprisingly the Red Army, some of its assault engineers were equipped with body armour. Even in mid 70s the only protective gear we had was a WWII era steel helmet.
4th7thRDG - 25th February 1944 The C.O. held a Squadron Leaders conference at 1000hrs. Each Squadron (excluding HQ) sent a team of 3 out of their tank crews to 79 Armd. Div for a short course on "snakes". -- x -- Armored Special Equipment, Study No. 52, General Board, United States Forces, European Theater (Lone Sentry)
