I watched it yesternight and I'm still shocked by it.

I had watched it years ago but I didn't remember many things. And now I simply bought the DVD and was just astonished of how it looked and sounded in a digital wide-screen.

It has now become one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen.

But it's quite a controversial film.

I'd like to know what you guys think. ;)

Which version are we talking about? I've seen them both, thought both were excellent, but I think that the original is a mile better than the re-make.

I really like the remake, but its so slow at the begining. Also George Clooney gets his face on the back of the box and his name in the front credits and hes only in it for 5 seconds. Otherwise its a great film.

Hated the latest version. Rubbish. Not seen the original.

It seemed it was made and bought out soley on the back of Saving Private Ryan - damn the film studios and distributors!

I have talked with a US veteran of the campaign-the distinguished American Civil War historian Ed Bearss- who was not taken with it. He felt that the representation both of the fighting and the terrain of the island gave a very inaccurate picture of the real battle.

I saw the film a few years ago and I coudn't stick watching it so I just turned it off half way through. I think it's one of the worst war related films I have seen. I coudn't see the history and the real point of the film coming through, although I probably should have watched all the way through to see if anything come's of it.

The first time I saw this film on DVD about 2 years ago, I thought it was the biggest pile of rubbish ever, especially the first 15-20mins, which i just couldnt understand. Saw it again on C4 or 5 recently (cant remember which), but it grown on me a little, although its still utter rot, compared to Saving Private Ryan and virtually every other war film out there, past and present.
