100 years ago, on 7 November 1920, the remains of four unidentified soldiers were exhumed from four WW1 battlefields: the Somme, Ypres, the Aisne and Arras, the bodies were brought to a chapel in Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise in northern France where Brigadier General Louis John Wyatt was given the task of choosing one, without knowing which battlefield it had come from. On 11 November the Unknown Warrior was interred in Westminster Abbey in soil brought from each of the main battlefields. The hymns sung at the service were recorded and were the first electrical recordings ever sold; as we approach, what will sadly be a very different Remembrance Day, the event has been commemorated by Westminster City Council and The Military Wives Choirs: Journey of the Unknown Warrior Unknown Warrior | Westminster Abbey
Nice to see that she has continued the tradition of laying flowers on his grave, as royal brides have done since her mother got married in 1923.
It was good see her perform this duty as usual, but it was quite disconcerting to see the Queen in her mask.
