  1. Hi

I am looking for any general information regarding my Grandfather Thomas Rippin who served with The 2nd Lincolnshire regiment between 1931 and 1945.
I know that he served in india, singapore and was present at Dunkirk and the D-Day landings During which he was awarded the DCM for his conduct during the Battle of herouville.
Any more info or Photos would be much appreciated

Anything specific? The regiments history is as rare as hen's teeth but I do have the battalions war diary covering the France and Flanders campaign but it covers 1939 Aug.-1940 June.

    Edit:

I've just checked my records and I copied nearly all of the 2 Lincs war diaries for a chap in New Zealand a couple of years ago. I lost all the files in a error but can still let you know a rough guide to how many pages are in each and estimate if you want copies.

    Cheers

  5. The war diaries would be a great help.
I would take as many as you can get hold of.
As you say it seems to be quite difficult to gleen much regimental history regarding the 2nd Lincolns.
I have managed to get hold of a copy of The history of The Lincolnshire Regiment in NW Europe hermanville-sur-mer 6 June 1944 to Lenerich 8 May 1945 which is quite informative regarding the D-Day landings onwards.
If you could quote me it would be much appreciated
    Thanks

    HI
My grandfather served with 2 Lincolns 1935-45. In the late 90's i tracked down many of the surviving veterans and recorded many of their recollections. I wrote a book for the 60th anniversary about the battle in which your grandfather was awarded his DCM, enjoy the read. Your grandfather is mentioned in several places. If you want any info on 2 Lincolns let me know, i have plenty
    Edward
PS Do you have a photo in uniform with DCM?

  8. Thanks for that Edward,
My Grandfather never spoke of his time in the Lincolns

I have a few more photos which I am going to scan and upload but unfortunately not one wearing his DCM.
Any other info or photos would be much appreciated
