Sounds strange. The islands are said to have a population of 50 000, whereof 17 000 live in Torshavn.
They are Danish territory. Maybe one of the Danes on the forum could help you ?

    All th best

I know it is 50kms from your town (across the water) but thought you may know someone there who might be able to take a photo of the Headstone and the cemetery for me.

I would be most appreciative if you could achieve that photo for my research project.

    Cheers

Hi all of you. I don't know why, but I didn't get a notification that you had responded to my message.
If you still need the pictures, I would be glad to help.

Spidge, it would not be a problem, that it is in Midvag. Even if it is 50km away, I am there several times each year.

No! He seems to have gone off the radar. There is a name like that on facebook from Thailand.

I did have another offer at one stage from a "sailor" who gets there a couple of times a year but not heard from him either.

Should possibly send Tinakj a PM?

    Cheers

    Geoff,

dont worry about a thing. I have it all under control. Photos from both Torshavn AND Midvaag coming soon. My contacts have said they will take photos of ALL the headstones at both Cemeteries.

Any news on the Iceland contact?

Did I send you my lists of my names still needed? I dont think I did, but please correct me.

    Hi Tony,

    That is great news.

Nothing from the Iceland contact but a possibility from another source.

You did not send them however post away. If I can I will! Where are yours?

    Cheers

    Geoff

My dad was a corporal in the South Staffordshire Regiment. A young 17 year old soldier named Private Lingard was in his hut .He had gone into Torshavn during the late afternoon and failed to return back to his hut.The next morning my dad had to report him missing.About a week later Private Lingard was found drowned in the dock, and as dad was his NCO,he had to go and identify him.Dad and the rest of his mates attended the funeral of this young soldier.
