Froomey has just won the Criterium de Dauphane and the Sky team is looking really good for the TdF. I have just clocked up 1,500 miles on my new build Colnago Titanio in 4 months, Next up is Ben Ansilie and the Americas Cup, Ashes, Rugby World Cup, Lewis for F1 x2 Champ, it going to be British sporting heaven this year.
Blimey CC glad your hopeful dont forget Murray who is on form ( that was the kiss of death sorry Andy) regards Clive
Saw a place on TdeF yesterday I now want to visit - Lacets de Montvernier http://velonews.competitor.com/2015/07/news/fan-less-lacets-climb-weird-in-the-tour-de-france_379366 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Puh37FKmaSI
Attached are a couple of photographs I took in June 2007 of the RAF Waddington band performing at the Whitehaven Maritime Festival next to the publicity caravan for that year's Tour de France. That year's Tour de France 'Prologue' was held at London (7 July) and Stage 1 was from London to Canterbury (8 July). Inside the Tour de France caravan there were a couple of stationary bicycles where you could have a free go to see how good you might be as a Tour de France rider. The RAF Waddington band performed really well - and no doubt better than 'yours truly' did as a would-be Tour de France rider!
Fantastic ride by the whole of the SKY team. It looks like my collection of cycling jerseys commemorating British success ( Froome 2013, Wiggo 2015 - 1 hour record)) will be added to very soon. Here's to more British winners in this great year for sport.
Yes, congratulations to anyone and any tewam that wins the TdF. Just looking at the severity of some of the climbs makes you appreciate just how hard these riders work at their Profession. Some of the helicopter shots are superb and I was watching live, the assault on Lacets de Montvernier that Owen has posted. Incredible endurance to climb that Peak. Regards Tom
2016 is coming down the Cherbourg peninsula. Should be wonderful scenery. Hope to see some hedgerows.
Just saw the 2016 version of this on TV. Here's one from a couple of years ago. Apparently it is a 'thing' now. Love it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCXqyrZcUWQ Country side in Cherbourg is just ridiculously beautiful
We're only 50km from the Pyrenees, and have driven up and down the steep winding roads there a few times . I've read that cyclists can reach 60kph on parts of the descent. This year, I think for the first time, there will be checks of the cycles to see if there's a tiny hidden battery to help up the hills.
Lucky! Love to see that part of the world. Did you mean to type 60 MPH? Even that is too slow though because they hit well over 100 KPH on the downhills
Sorry - yes mph. but my memory must have let me down ! Again. We are lucky, it's beautiful here. a few years ago the racers passed on a route just up the road from us - saw the tailenders.
I found this article giving cycling records: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cycling_records 138mph mens downhill on snow!
Scenery is showing no mercy! So glad these things weren't destroyed during WWII https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_d%27Angers
Face book translation of Cantal Gendarmerie request So that the tour is still a party: - respect the safety distance compared to the runners; - show the utmost vigilance with your kids; - you don't expose on the carriageway (sport or other! ) - keep your pets on a leash; - don't try to pick up the promotional items on the lanes.
