Hunt_1.jpeg View attachment 110207 Hello. Would appreciate any advice on this Tracer Card for my Great Uncle - which I have obtained from Bovington.
I cannot seem to find what 'ERE' stands for and it mentions a 'K Armoured Corps'. Any help much appreciated. Thank You

    Hello and welcome

I think that ERE means Extra Regimental Employment

I've been helping Clare a bit with this and pointed her here.

Does anyone know what K. Armd. ??? could mean, where he was posted 15/10/41?

    Many thanks!

K Armoured Corps (General List) October 1941- sorry don't know what that means but it was just before he went missing in November 41.

Perhaps best to apply for the FULL service records from the MOD which should have a lot more detail on them

Another one, anyone knows what II(XI) means as a posting in a Corps HQ? Seems to be RAC related.

    All the best

I think the "II" you are referring to means ditto, ie "

    Good Evening

Following on from trying to Understand my Great Uncles Tracer Card - I wondered if there is any info out there re the Training Regiment in Tidworth, Wilts....

Also the Tracer card states he was posted to 'K Armd Corps 5th October 1941 - and cannot seem to find what that Corps was.

A little later it states XXX Corps (X1) HQ - and then 21 AG - which I understand as 30 Corps and 21 Army Group - but am afraid that's where my knowledge ends.

So keen to learn more.. Many thanks

In 1943 - the 59th RAC Training regiment were stationed along the road to Bishop Auckland in Durham - about three miles past the 61st Training regt RAC which was at Streatlam Camp - and

54th Training regt was in Barnard Castle itself - the K.... MIGHT be an R for ROYAL ARMOURED CORPS perhaps......as to the XXX corps (X1) - this meant that he was at HQ waiting to be posted

elsewhere - possibly to a Division- Brigade - Regiment within XXX corps of 21st Army group

    Cheers

Thank you - any snippets of information - help so much. Have attached the card - I suppose it could be a 'R'

I know he lived in Wiltshire - so I guess it fits in to train at Tidworth with the 59th TR before leaving for action.

    Many thanks for your time

interesting that he was captured on 25th November '41 - a few days after Auchinlek had started the Crusader battle against a mix of Italian and the German Afrika Corps until he was released in the

Jan of '42 - strange battle as we had thought we had won as Rommel sneaked back to El Ageila - and we were on our last legs supply wise as being too far away from Egypt - but Rommel was

supplied by some Tiger Panzers from Tripoli and came at us again - thus beginning the Gazala Gallop with Ritchie the commander 8th army being fired - which saw us retreat all the way to El

Alamein by the July '42 with Auchinlek being fired - Monty taking over in August to give Rommel a bloody nose at Alum El Falpha - then a bigger kick at El Alamein in the October '42 - he must have

been with XXX corps at that time coming home from Sicily for Christmas '43 ready for D Day in June '44 and beyond

you really should get his service records as they will be a fascinating history lesson of the war..Andreas a fellow member is writing a book on that Crusader battle - he might be along soon - even just

to correct my errors - which is always useful

Many thanks - it is a case of trying to fill in the gaps. We know Uncle Jack was a Desert Rat - and we believe he ended the war in Padua - but it is the gaps inbewteen. I can usually find the answers for general Family History - but the Military Side is an unknown - although I am picking up knowledge fast.

Andreas actually put me in touch with this brilliant forum!

It is much appreciated - your time and responses

yet another hidden clue as it was the 4th RTR which came from France & Germany to Padua in the latter stages of the war..it becomes MORE interesting as the 4th RTR were brought up to strength for that move from the remnants of 9th RTR

which was disbanded after the Bulge thingi so perhaps he did move around somewhat...

We have currency from Austria Greece Egypt and Italy and photos of Palestine - it does appear that he did travel!

Attached JackHuntThanksgiving.jpg JackHunt.jpg photo and the Thanksgiving doc if of any interest.

the Greece and Egypt notes might have come from that campaign in 1941..the Austrian might have been acquired when they came up for Ski-ing around Spittall as 6th Armoured had a ski base there all winters at Kanzel near Gros

Glockner - surprised to see 7AB at padua though - thought they were over by Trieste

Thanks again. I suppose I am asking if what I 'know' fits in with the Tracer Card. Think ordering the Service Records would be best?? As still cannot find a trace of the KArmd Corps posted to in October 41. The letters in brackets at the side appear to be (Lea/Sea/Fea? List 13/41)?

the service records are a MUST now as we are getting into guessing which will lead to all sorts of blind alleys- that K still might be an R and the lea /sea /fea is just an instruction to the clerks to act....

Just had update from Bovington to advise:

K could mean K Battalion RAC which served in Egypt between Feb and March 1943 and was a holding unit for Armoured Fighting Vehicles OR K Tank Delivery Troop (TDT) which again served in Egypt but between Oct and Dec 1942. Hopefully the Service Records will confirm (in due course!)
