And, what two Generals, Ludwig Crüwell and Wilhelm von Thoma talked about in German. And what was secretly monitored by MI5

Thanks a lot, The German military broadly underestimated the British military in WW2.
When I researched for my book about the tunnel escape of British officers from a POW camp in 1041, I had a similar experience.

Below is a very comprehensive thread on Trent Park from many years ago.

I would add that Soldaten by Sonke Neitel referenced gives a deep insight to war by one side, that conducted by the Wehrmacht.

Söhnke Neitzel has written Abgehört which was AFAICT the first work to look into this.

Trent Park wasn't the only place where German POWs were secretly monitored, this form of intelligence gathering took place in the Middle East and Mediterranean as well.

These are very useful sources, as they provide evidence of how soldiers thought about the war at the time, rather than through the fog of memory decades later.

The book shop received the book today and I started to read it: After page 2, this book is very promising. However
Helen Frey is a historian and, to my knowledge never had any military training. Helen's comment, that a German low rank officer and a paratrooper were unbelievably stupid, sounds a bit overdone. They were two young lads, knowing little to nothing about the capabilities of MI6.

However, as I stated before, The Brits, like Major Kendrick, understood German and had much more knowledge about The Reich, than German Military ever gained during WW2.

Lots of technical details, great reading and many facts I had not known before. Also,well known names of German officers and men.
Amusing how charming the instigators went about with wining and dining.
I have already recommended the book to Germans and Brits.

British TV Channel 4 produced a programme about Trent House back in 2013 with actors speaking the words of the German Generals as recorded in the transcripts made at the time.
