Yeah, when I saw the SS Totenkopf collar tabs about 2:05, I got real choked up: great bunch of guys. A troll is a troll is a troll...
I made scotch eggs yesterday. Another damned fine batch. Becoming convinced it's a lot to do with a bit of lemon zest in the mix. That and not over-mixing. They go a bit chewy if you overdo it, like burgers.
You mean the mighty scotch egg isn't a culinary staple in every nation of the world? How disappointing.
And who could blame them. I got bought a 'selection box' of posh scotch eggs once. Pickled, pancetta wrapped, salt and vinegar crisps as a coating etc. All nice, but... wanky. Best one was the plain variety.
Did the Germans ever try to invade the UK ? There was never an opportunity in WW1 & in WW2 Sealion wasn't much of a reality either.
Shingle street, mate. It was all about scotch eggs, which is obviously why it was hushed up. The potential blow to morale was seen as too great, and only later in the war did they realise the foreign threat to meat-wrapped chicken periods could have actually helped engender the highest level of fighting spirit in the troops and general population.
shingle street would have been a raid not an invasion. Germans invading UK is just us Brits being paranoid init? makes for a ripping yarn. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Riddle_of_the_Sands https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQMdGfNTJvw
Or the inevitable result of a plan for world (and scotch egg) domination. Got to eventually 'invade', whether civil or military when the country is beaten, and they definitely expressed a passing interest in beating other countries. Adam If I've got the location of the Abbey of Thelema correct, have you tried the amazing Scotch Eggs at that Farmers shop next to the Shell petrol station near Newark at the junction of the A46 and A1? They also sell some really amazing Cranberry topped pies. I'm talking on the Lincoln side of the A1 but, if you accidentally end up on the other side, the Newark town side, there is always the MacDonalds........but I'm not sure if they do Scotch Eggs.
Quite a good selection of local beers as well.....and artisan bread.......and all the other odds and sods you tend to see in Farmers shops nowadays. Useless fact: I used to work with the guy who sorted out the problem of exploding Cadburys Creme Eggs when they went through that phase in the 1970s. Something to do with osmophilic yeasts, carbon dioxide generation and the pressure retention characteristics of elliptoid chocolate shells and eventually the spontaneous explosion normally along the half seam line.
SDP - I am glad you mention that as I have been pondering that same problem for years now without someone explaining how or why. VP - I am also hoping that I might become the NW France distributor/franchisee for your eggs - please forward a contract asap TD
I love threads of this type. It allows us to talk about things we would never otherwise talk about. Anybody know anything about other UK Eggs. Don't see why the Scots should have a monopoly. Welsh Egg English Egg Northern Irish Egg Manx Egg Jersey Egg Guernsey Egg Any other name you can think of Egg And finally, from Gods Own County, the Yorkshire Egg?
