    Who is the current expert / research guru on the slow convoys from US to Mediterranean, I'm especially interested in UGS-44 - UGS-52, June - September 1944, and most especially what cargo was being carried on the ships.

    I've been on Convoyweb.org.uk already and whilst they have the ships for each Convoy serial, the do not seem to have any info on cargo manifests. There must be someone who has taken up the research mantle since Arnold Hague passed? Anyone got any knowledge on this?

    Alternatively anyone got a handle on where to look in TNA for British copies of the relevant AFHQ files?

    PS. have also emailed Convoyweb but not had a reply as yet.

    Looking for you. Your main interest is the cargo correct? I’ll see what I can find.

    Here’s is information on their departure from US. First page is the “cover forces” on departure (ships and Blimps assigned), and the second two pages are the ships departing Cape Henry for UGS 44

    Hi Temujin,

    thanks for this, it correlates well with the info on convoyweb.org which also lists all the ships but, sadly, not their cargo. There is some more detail in this list for UGS-44 including actual departure point and time of departure. However, as you note it is mostly the cargo info I'm after and mostly for the following ships;

    This reads from left to right, Convoy Serial - Name of Ship - Destination my source gives - Destination Convoyweb gives - date convoy arrived in Port Said, according to Convoyweb. I'd like to specifically tie-down cargo for these 10 ships, but also like to see a generalised list of cargo in all the ships in Convoys UGS-49, UGS-50, and UGS-51.

    Got it….I’ll see if I can find anything. I did find more info on the LST’s which were part of the convoy, and the War Dairies from various Escort ships……but I didn’t figure you wanted those. The LST’s do not give you cargo lists either, just “loading and unloading”…..

    so, I’ll see if I can find anything on som e of the ships and dates you listed above
