Hi - I wodner if anyone can help solve a question on insignia. I'm currently researching a machine gun battalion which, throughout 1944 and 1945, had men from various other regiments on strength. Records, such as the roll of officers at the back of the war diary, still note their parent regiment, but (while they don't appear to have formally transferred) the officers and men were but very much part of the unit. I wonder, when joining the battalion, would the men have kept their own regiment's cap badge and shoulder titles, or adpoted those of the unit they were now serving with. Any help greatfully received.
