Charley - I posted a code last month that gave a month's subscription for £1. I get emails periodically with those types of offers from them. Create an account but don't subscribe and go on their mailing list and they'll probably send you one at some point.

Top tips - if you get an offer and sign up be sure to change your account settings so that your subscription doesn't auto renew at the full rate when the trial ends.

Save copies of any articles/pictures you want to keep as once your subscription lapses you can't access any you've bookmarked. You download them as .pdf files. Quite handy for zooming in to take screenshots of as often the typeface is tiny on old newspapers.

I've just subscribed and downloaded a single full-page article - very impressive.
Thank you for the hints - all noted. i did wonder about what you can access after you cease to subscribe.

Was the code still active? Great stuff! The good news is, even though you can't access the files they do save the ones you've bookmarked etc to your account so if you re-subscribe you can find them again without having to search. The search engine can take a bit of work to turn up results but I've found quite a few articles and photos relating to my family so it's worth persevering.

Ahh, no - wrong term - registered and got the three freebies.
Will now find and check your code though!

Edit: alas it hath bitten the dust.

Thanks for the tip. I've been browsing the IWM photo archive this afternoon and hadn't turned up anything so was thinking the Argyll's museum might be my next port of call. The other possibility I thought about was the battalion war diary. I have the one covering January to June 1940 thanks to Drew on this forum but there is another one listed in the national archives apparently covering 1939-1940. There is also a chance that the photo was destroyed along with other documents during the fall of France.

Oh well. If I get another one I'll be sure to post it on the forum again - although chances are they'll dangle one in front of you soon enough.
