The new military service, the first in more than 70 years, falls under the US Air Force. Space Force will build on the work of the existing US Space Command (SpaceCom), which was created in August to handle the US military's space operations. Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett said the Space Force would comprise around 16,000 Air Force and civilian personnel. It will be led by Air Force General Jay Raymond, who currently runs SpaceCom Trump officially launches US military 'Space Force'

I love it. Our forces in the Mideast are so strapped for infantry that the men are being compelled to do multiple tours, they've just been handed a potential new front of uncertain dimensions (Iran), Putin might jump on the Ukraine any time, North Korea is a time bomb, and we've just created a Space Force. How the hell does that help win a ground war? We need TROOPS, damn it. To get those troops we need a draft, of course, but everyone here is too cowardly to face facts. I think the real space is in the policymakers' heads.
I haven't been following the story too closely but isn't the purpose to provision and protect our satellites? That's important although I think the Air Force could do it just fine. Manned flight is a complete waste of money, in my opinion. Humans are the weak link in space flight and add at least ten fold to the cost. Nothing they can do in space that computers, robots and remote control apps can't.
