So, commencing Saturday 26th on BBC2, split into 3x90 minute episodes.

I have set my video to record the complete series and will review it after seeing the whole film.

This series starts tomorrow on BBC2 in the UK - from what I have read it has been generally well received so far - even going so far as to be described as the German "Band of Brothers" - should be worth a watch

In the mean time I have seen it... very good.
What has impressed me that the ZDF was bold enough to tackle taboo situations as:
    1) How it can be that ordinary Wehrmacht (conscripted) soldiers did participate in rounding up jews, slavs, etc and executions..
    2) How it is possible for scores of brutal blood on their hands Nazis to return in the BRD and get employment even with consent of the US army.
    3) How the hunted down Poles and Ukrainians themselves are equally tough on hunted down Jews.

All known in writing, and documentary but not before given attention in a film.

shame about the brewed up T34/85 at 1approx 6minutes in 1941, too early for that model.
    :(

edit: the young Jewish chap called Goldstein , anyone else think of our Ron when that character introduced ?

    Owen,

I suppose you can Count me as one that also picks out vehicles etc that are not in keeping with the timeframe, but at least it was a T34!

When I Point out Little discrepencies in films my better half simply says that it is a representation! When it Comes to Tanks I bite my tongue as a Tank is a Tank!!

Yes I did think of Ron, when I first saw the series aired.

    Regards
    Tom

49 minutes in the trench they have a MG42 , not in 1941 they wouldn't.

    That was pretty damn good.
In the night at the theatre scene , there were lights showing in the street.
Wasnt there a black out in German towns in 1941 or was it still safe to show lights at night?

Just watched episode 2 on iPlayer.

    Is anyone else watching it?
I'd have thought this would have been discussed alot more on the forum.
Or is it because it's about Germans were not interested ?
I thought that epsiode 2 was pretty grim for all the major characters.

Yep....Absolutely fascinated by it and find myself not wanting any of them to be killed. Can' wait to watch the last one.

If the Americans can do it with that Band of Brothers thingy and the Germans can do it with Generation War....Come on Britain, lets have a Tommy Atkins focused one, stating just before Dunkirk of course ;)

So far I have found it cliched, deeply unconvincing and poorly structured - in common with almost every other recent WWII drama. It is certainly no 'Band of Brothers', but I'd still rather watch it than most of that which passes for mainstream TV nowadays.

Have been recording each episode then watching it the next day simply because she who must be obeyed says " I don't need to watch these nasty films to know what was done in their name in Ww2"

Will review the film after seeing next weeks final episode.
