    Valentine's Day today!

The only tank I know that has a day named after him :D There used to be Stalin's Day too, but that was usually overlooked in the West

Ooooh, I was wrong! It was the same day for both tanks after all !!!

I wasn't going to open this - myself and significant other being of the 'load of crap with the primary intention of selling cards' persuasion.
    Glad I did though :D.
That's my kind of Valentine... though the second photo may be a bit graphic - I do hope that truck can take the weight.

Bought the wife (now ex) a serious bunch of flowers for Valentines Day. I am with Adam re the above and needless to say, the missus was narked for not getting a card with them and thus binned the stunning bouquet. Is this a women's logic thing.:p

Any thoughts on what's apparently been censored from Za's pic?

The eyes of an eagle!!! You piqued me!

Let's see, here's the same picture but in big, also censored. The title is: "Crowd of British factory workers checking out the Valentine tank named 'Stalin' during Russian Ambassador Ivan Maisky's visit, England, UK, circa 1943" and was found here.

In this bigger size photo it looks a lot to me like floral decorations, on the Churchill glacis, but also oaid on the C. tracks, left and right. Perhaps the large wreath or whatever contained a photo of Uncle Joe? But then why censor it and leave the man's name on big letters on the Val.? Why censor flower sprigs???

Identifiable factory/manufacturer name maybe? Or production figure?
Quite famous shots so there might be an uncut version out there somewhere.

If that photo is from the Library of Congress perhaps the negative is shot. :(

And looking up on this what do I find in the 4th page of Google search results? This page :D

More here, on great old o5m6.de

If the event is 1941 (as suggested by Za's German site) might it be a MkI with the 3" howitzer? Reason enough to censor it, I'd have thought.

Factory workers ride on Valentine tanks as they leave a factory in Smethwick. The notice on the front of the tanks reads "Tanks for Russia Week. Every Second Counts!". Chalked on the side of the tank (on the left hand side of the photograph) are the words "From Smethwick to Smolensk". The worker sitting on the turret of the tank in the foreground is holding a Russian flag.

Factory workers ride on Valentine tanks as they leave a factory in Smethwick. A notice propped on the front of the tanks reads "All Help for Russia Now". The workers are holding a Union flag and a Russian flag and many have their fists raised in a Communist salute.

That's the very same event all right, Owen :) Now all we need is that Churchill. Would this have been filmed by Pathé?

Is this a valentine? the gun mount is different from the other pictures in this thread and it looks like they have been doing some "off roading" in the old girl.
I am guessing this is somewhere in America
military picture: wwii Valentine light tank photos

Cannt find a search on the site because there are some excellent photos and cutaways but you just have to trawl through the "older posts" or "newer posts"

Nice camouflaged hangar behind. Was it to blend with the tarmac?
