Variations on the Recce Corps badge

The Bovington Tank Museum displays unit badges on banners above one of the halls and there seemed to be three different Reconnaissance Corps badges shown. Two were displayed together on the very right hand end of the display. The lower one was the usual badge but above it there was another one that seemed to have something added in the middle of it. I only noticed this when I was standing too far away to see what it was, but I've googled and found badges with a Yorkshire Rose in the middle so that might have been it. At the left hand end of the display there was another badge which was again based on the usual one but had a shield (or some other panel) with a lion rampant (?) in the middle it. That was a new one to me too.

Only the standard badge was familiar to me, which might mean I need to read Doherty's books more closely (I don't have them to hand), or it just might mean I need educating. Can someone enlighten me please?

    Thanks,

    G.

    Best,

    Steve.

Ah thanks. Not only did I clearly do a pathetic job when I tried searching for previous messages, but I clean forgot I have the Osprey book as a PDF on this laptop.

Interesting to see these badges displayed on the banners though given that they seem to be 'unofficial' variations used by a couple of the regiments in the corps.

Slight aside: One can't really complain about a Tank Museum being full of tanks but I would have liked to see a bit more information about the regiments in the RAC. Rather than having a few of the units that operated the vehicles mentioned on the displays it would have been good to be able to read about the regiments and be told what vehicles they used and if the museum had examples to look at.

They were a bit too far away for my camera to cope with indoors. However....

Looking around the net All sizes | Bovington Tank Museum - The Tank Room | Flickr - Photo Sharing! gets the left hand one just about clear enough to see and I think that is indeed the Scottish Lion in the middle.

All sizes | Bovington Tank Museum - The Tank Story | Flickr - Photo Sharing! has the other end with the other two badges, though they aren't so distinct sadly.

Credits to 'Austin7nut' on Flickr for those photos.
