There is a lot there indeed. It certainly needs sorting out a little. The 1 Corps insignia is noticeable and others have RAF uniforms. He seems to have passed through Belgium and Holland and ended the war in central Germany, picking up some souvenirs on the way. What stage are you at with your researches ?

The photos with the 'Emmerich Repeaters' signs show the white-over-blue arm-of-service flash for the Royal Signals. The diagonal bar denotes Army Group Troops, so his unit served 21 Army Group. The 1463 code is annoying - it is the serial number of his actual unit. I have a book that identifies 1462 as 12 Line of Communication HQ Signals, but not 1463. It's possible that they were a dedicated [telephone] line maintenance unit, looking at the other sign in one of the photos.

He was in the 52nd in the war but stayed on after the war with 1st corp signals but he used to tel, us small bits while in the war but never to much and mentioned nothing about after the war.We have found a couple of things out after the war he was based in iserjohn please excuse the spelling were he also started up a band in the lagoon bar but that's as much as we know His name was Leslie Marriott If anybody knows any more info it would be fantastic to find out more
there are some pictures of the band with my grandad playing the piano

my grandad ended up with alziemers again sorry for the spelling and towards the end he would te;; us a few storys

one of the storys that he mentioned was while he was on the rhine doing his job he was on his motorbike with somebody else with him they came under heavy fire trying to build communications on a bridge and unfortunatly the other person died he then would start talking in german and not mention it again and another one was he would describe the smell after the war of prisoner of war camps and gas chambers of rotting flesh and he could always tell if they were coming towards one as there was fields with loads of pigs in them. unfortunatly he never really said much more just like his farther who fought in france in ww1

A little bit more aswell he was in the 52nd highland division trained up in the mountains of Scotland to join the war in Italy they then were sent to Belgium through holland down the Rhine into Germany after the war was finished they were due to be reposted to Japan however that didn't happen and stayed on in Germany with the 1st corp from what I understand anyway helping with the clean up and communications

Because of the things that have been found and the few story's that he mentioned before he died RIP its given me a drive to find out more and pass that knowledge on so that it isn't all just forgotten.

In the things I have found there is a Dutch passport which I can only presume he befriended him, the odd things are the German stuff though like mein kampf and I've got an iron cross that was also in the attic, the one thing that is nice but very unusual is a walking stick that looks like its hand crafted of the war with all the important dates on it german signs on it and British ones with his name carved in the top and a snake running down the bottom of it will try and post some more pics
