    Don,

No, you have to order CD copies made from the master reel-to-reel tapes. Pretty fast service.

I still had the forms from the last time I ordered copies but it's too large to attach here. Please PM me your email address and I'll send it over.

As I recall the charge 10 quid per reel to transfer to CD so you're looking at 20 quid and postage.

    Regards,

    Dave

    Hi Sharon,

The CD is not something which would be for sale in the IWM's gift shop. I emailed Don the form needed to purchase the CD from the IWM's Sound department. They will mail one copy and then someone at your end can make copies as needed.

I am not sure Sgt Williams is still with us. He made this recording in 1992. I see no obituary online but that is not a definite indicator. He would be 96 if alive.

    Regards,

    Dave

Thank you Dave. Didn't enter my head about ordering one and getting it copied! Thanks for the tip! I want one for myself and two as gifts. As I couldn't see it in their shop I was going to phone them today and enquire. But they are closed at the weekends. Don had said that he will send me the order forms as soon as he gets them. We are going to find Sgt.Williams one way or another! lol Me and Don can't let go of this one . I have sent a letter into a daily newspaper in Bangor for info just in case he still has relatives there. I have a feeling that Don will beat me to it! He is real clever. Thanks again.

Hi Dave, It may seem an odd question I know, but had Bob Williams got a Welsh accent on The Radio Kent interview? I put in an order but havn't received yet. I have been on a Family Search site and can't find that he was even born in Wales. His last known address was Upper Bangor. Don and myself are tearing our hair out trying to find something about him. Ahhhhhhh!! Thankyou. Sharon

    Hi Sharon,

I have no idea about his accent as I have never heard it. It was only due to Nick Fenton's post #18 of this thread where I learned of the Welsh connection.

He may have moved to Kent post-war. It is such a common name that without the liberation questionnaire Nick obtained we would not know his middle name. That's what opened the floodgates, as it were.

Hopefully there will be something on the tape that gives further information.

    Regards,

    Dave

I am sad to report that Sgt. Bob Williams died four years ago. Our search for the last surviving crew member of Wellington X9700 is over. I just received the news from a couple in the Netherlands who live near Roggel and were able to contact the grand-daughter of Peter Mennen, owner of Cafe Mennen.

Fortunately, they also gave me contact information for Bob Williams' son, so Sharon will still, hopefully, be able to speak with him.

Thank you to all on this forum who have been so helpful, especially Mark, Adrian, Dave and Nick. Special thanks also go to Michel, Ed and Anita in the Netherlands.
None of this would have been possible without your generous contributions.

    Best regards,
    Don

This crew is remembered within the Leudal Monument aka the Monument of Tolerance. The monument, located very close to Roggel, remembers more then 700 fallen from 11 nations. see for more information www.leudalmonument.nl

One of our committee members has a large archive about all the crashes and also about this crash. PM or mail me for more information roelATleudalmonument.nl

Thanks, Tricky Dicky, but that's the info I researched and posted myself. I'm hoping The General has something new to offer.

    Cheers,
    Don

The Dutch are very big on commemorating crews. You might find if you talk to the Roegel contacts that it is on the local schools curriculum. On Dutch Liberation Day they will also no doubt remember the crew then... You will also find that someone near Jonkerbos will have adopted the graves of the crew that are buried there. Please do go to Hollland as someone will be able to show you the site of the crash and you can visit the graves. The local Dutch will look after you well. My friend Ria is on the committee for the Monument of Tolerance looks after one of our 75 Squadron crews very well. There is also a museum at next to the Monument.

    Hi

We are trying to trace RM Williams

We recently purchased a 1938 Vauxhall and was registered to RM Williams Cross Keys, Muston Filey

Apparently he was an officer in the RAF

The Car tells a story of its own but it would be fantastic to know more about the original owner

    Thanks

    Steve
