New information about course 37 courses was held at No2 signals school and No 1 A.G.S See down this post any one can help further. See details about C.F. Laloli front row on the picture.

My farther was on course 37 with with 23 other people I have a course photo with all their names on he went on to Pathfinder duty and was on Blenhimes etc I recall a press photo of him and the other crew in front of a Lancaster with the Emb Old Father Time he was at Bircham and finished the war as Flt Lt J S Doughty number 162863.
Any info on tracking some history would be great. See picture of course 37 in my Profile on this site

There is now a list further down the post of the crew I have been able to find can any one help find the rest?????
    Examples

R1063 B.Ic 115 Sqn KO-D 1941: 6/7th July; Sgt O A Matthews. Ops: Munster. FTR. Shot down by Oblt H Woltersdorf, 4/NJG.1 and crashed into the North Sea off Schiermonnikoog, Dutch Frisian Islands. It is believed that the crew were attempting to make a controlled ditching following a w/t message from the aircraft. W/O A/G Sgt A Webster

    Hampden AE224
    1/2 November, 1941; ANTI-SHIPPING/MINELAYING:
Just before 22.00hrs, 4 of the unit's Hampdens set course from Scampton via Mablethorpe for northern Germany. In bright moonlight, 2 of these aircraft went on to successfully plant mines in Kiel Bay, whilst the remaining 2 sought shipping targets off the Frisians.
The second aircraft detailed for anti-shipping patrol was piloted by S/Ldr Drakes (AE224) - nothing was heard from this crew after take-off, and they were reported as missing. It is now thought that a night fighter shot them down into the North Sea - their bodies were never recovered. S/Ldr David Baron Drakes and crew are remembered on the Runnymede Memorial.

    Hampden AE224 (EA-Z)
    S/L D.B. Drakes Pilot (Missing)
    P/O V.D. Beaney 2nd Pilot (Missing)
    P/O W.H. Cheetham A/Ob (Missing)
    F/S W.A. Watson W/AG (Missing)

I have compared the photograph (above) of C E Laloli with a photograph of NZ39242/70466 Charles Francis LALOLI taken at Wigram on 14/8/46 when he was on the staff of the Air Navigation School, Wigram as a staff W/Opr A/G. He certainly could be the same man as the one in the course photograph. Laloli was awarded a DFC, and looks as though he would have been eligible for the Africa Star, Italy Star and Pacific Star as well as others such as Defence Medal, 39/45 Star. He completed a WOAG course in UK between early August and early October 1941 (at 2 Signals School and 1 AGS) before graduating as a Sgt, being posted to 17 OTU, then to the Middle East where he flew with the Khartoum Communications Flight, 22 PTC, 244 Sqdn, and 38 Sqdn, then returning to NZ in March 1944. Subsequently he flew with 1 OTU at OHakea (presume as staff WOAG), then after the war with 41 Sqdn at Whenuapai from Nov 45, to Wigram staff in Feb 1946 beore converting to a Navigator (Wireless) in Feb 1947 and subsequent posting to 75 Sqdn, etc. He also served on 5 Squadron (Sunderland) from 1954, and Hobsonville, including trips to Singapore.

    Hi Chris,

You may want to ask an admin to post the photo here for you as you will get more replies.

These class photos always bring the losses closer to home.

You could research the casualties from this picture and see if you can find out with which squadron they were flying. From there you could search for the Operational Training Unit where this picture could be taken.

Rees, Watson and Webster were the first to get killed in action. I will have a look up for them later today.

Watson and Webster flew with 115 Squadron. I found two newspaper articles about their fellow crewmembers, mentioning they arrived in England for their last part of training (OTU) in February 1941. Uncertain if this was at the same OTU as your father. But it might point us in a direction of the date on which the picture of 37 Course was taken.

Does anyone hold a copy of the 115 Squadron ORB's Summary of Events? Perhaps it mentions from which OTU these airmen were posted to the squadron?
