Of course. Streams of bullets & lots of blood.

My sibling was called into school a few years back because his boy did similar.
SiL says my brother just sat & silently glared at the Head for the entire 'we're concerned' interview.
No further action. And rightly so.

I drew tons of stuff like that and nobody at my school or in my family minded at all.

This is a book about men and war. Not real conflict but war as it has filtered down to generations of boys and men through toys, comics, games and movies. Harry Pearson belongs to the great battalion of British men who grew up playing with toy soldiers - refighting World War II - and then stopped growing up

I loved my weekly Victor and Lion as a kid, as well as Commando. My brother and I must have had loads of Commando comics but they are all, sadly, long gone from my possession. Captain Hurricane and Maggott Malone were particular favourites of mine, although looking back at it now, they didn’t half get about!

Funny thing is that I don’t remember getting Valiant, but I must have done if I was a fan of Hercules Hurricane.

I am ashamed to admit, however, that the character that I remember most fondly from all of the above comics was dear ol’ Mowser the puss.

I read that, enjoyable, but went on a bit too much about wargaming which is not an interest of mine. I did enjoy the part when the author went to buy some wargames figures from a collector, found hundreds of packets never opened and had a horrible realisation what could lie in the future for him!

I was an avid reader of war comics, Commando, War Picture Library and Air Ace, all much better than those silly superhero comics from the US!

I remember when the Commando comics were introduced they used to have judo lessons printed inside the cover. It's a miracle no-one was seriously hurt!

That's me at the age of seven. My grandparents used to live right down the road from Valley Forge, we went there more than once. In elementary school we used to climb all over the rocks in Central Park and play Mad Anthony Wayne at Stony Point. What a gas.

As a child/at early teens I liked very much the SIIVET, the Finnish edition of Air-Ace comics. Some were very well drawn and some covers were stunning.

With the exception of 1939-1945, Dad worked for DC Thomsons for the whole of his working life.

As they were heavily discounted for staff, I got a huge wedge of comics, including Commando, Warlord, Victor, etc etc, every Friday when he got back from Dundee.

Usually kept me quiet for a few days.

I'm a podcast cynic (Every nerk and his dog brought one out during the ridiculous pandemic response), but Mr Reed's is a good 'un.
    He's covering Charley's War tomorrow.
Suspect it will be rather good.
