I am not sure if this has been posted before, apologies if it has, but just in case it hasn't... Images of the 53rd (Welsh) Division War Diaries for the period 11 Feb 1945 to the end of March 1945, are available here: http://heritage.canadiana.ca/view/oocihm.lac_reel_t2425 Mark
Mark, thank-you for sharing the War Diary of the 53rd. It may be my laptop, but some of the pages are quite blurred. Not meaning to be ungrateful, but it may be wise to do in colour. If possible. Regards, Stu.
Hello Stu Mark hasnt uploaded them he has kindly found the site. it is a heritage Canada web site regards Clive
Sorry Stu, but Clive is quite correct, I just found the site and posted a link. I do agree however that the images are not the sharpest. Mark
Mark, & Clive thank-you for the correction. Sorry, I should have seen that Mark did not upload the Diaries. Even so, its some what poor of the Web site to put out such a bad quality set of scans. Looks like someone did not check them first. Stating the obvious I know.. Regards, Stu.
Stolpi - I have about 2 weeks’ worth of April 45 (middle period of the month) for 53rd Welsh. I only copied the days of relevance to my research for my book. Happy to copy them if they are of use. John
I'm looking for the first week of April, when the Welsh Division passed through the eastern part of Holland.
I could probably use that same time frame, Stolpi. If I had more documents I could probably write "the stories with Archers included" for that time period.
I'm looking for (online) references to the war diary of the 53 Welsh and subunits following the liberation of Den Bosch. Following around 27/28/29/30 Oktober their reconnaissances toward Vlijmen, Engelen and Hedel. If possible looking for sit- or shellreps and/or POW interogations. Can anyone point me in a general direction as my experiences with Allied archives are limited.
Random question. My later father in law was Welch 53rd 1/5th B Company. Until the day he passed, he treasured a round piece of black fabric with a white cross on it. We know it was given to him by a nun when he marched through the town he helped liberate. We suspect the fabric could have been from a nuns habit. We believe this to be Den Bosch. Do any other family members have a fabric cross?
They are held by The National Archives, Kew. If you are lucky someone on the forum may be able to help. I have copies for many battalions, brigades and div HQ of 53rd Welsh for approx period 6-12 Apr if that is of help to you.
That would be great!!! Could you email them to me? Send me a message and i will reply with my email just so not everyone on the internet has my personal email address, thank you very much!
