Television is by its nature a visual medium and can be a powerful tool for learning, and I hope that if nothing else the stories we tell in the series pay a long overdue respect to the many forgotten heroes of the Second World War.
    Hear! Hear! Well done Paul.

I wonder if Quentin's father had a roll in Brian's (ADM 199) father being killed? He was a PoW on an Italian ship that the RN sunk fully aware it had British PoW's on board - Apparently they didn't want the Italians to think they had broken the code as the Italian Navy transmitted that she was carrying British PoW's from Africa.

Thanks for all the positive feedback; as ever, series like these are a team effort so I can't take all the credit; many people were involved, with some great Directors/Producers.

There is a sneak peak of Ep 3 here:

    BEF stuff :D

I wonder who was fighting at that Indian Memorial at Neuve Chapelle. I suspect a lot of units passed through there towards Hazebrouck.

Any clues Paul as to what diary to check first?

Yes BEF stuff - and credit where credit is due, thanks for your help on a 'certain story'.

I once had someone on a battlefield tour who said their father, with the Sherwood Foresters, had been in action there but I don't know if that is true.

I didn't do that much - I'll let Paddy know though when I see him next at Kew, he can buy me a brew

I'll check their diaries when I get back home-I'm pretty sure off the top of my head most of 48 Div passed through there at some point.

Maybe that's where Paddy's and CT's stories mix - Basil Tarrant was in the 48 Div REs (I think the signal coy) during 1940.

That'll be interesting if they did. I like the RIASC story I posted about them being at Cassel before 48 Div troops arrived. I'll stop there cause I don't know the content of the programme.

    Roll on next week :)

Just a heads up that it's Paddy Ashdown and Helen Lederer's story on WHIMF tonight - Channel 5, 8pm.

That was rather good again Paul.

A shame it couldn't be longer with some more time on Trent Park. Funny enough I was delving into the CSDIC reports at Kew last week. The bugged conversations are surprisingly revealing, especially those listening in on the others ranks' technical chit chat.
