A good account of the last German Arctic Weather Station can be found in the book War North of 80 Wilhelm Dege University of Calgary Press ISBN 0-87081-768-X Dege led the German weather team and the book illustrates an interesting but little-known facet of modern warfare.
In 1985 Dege's son Eckart accompanied a Norwegian expedition to the site of the Station on Svalbard, there they found logs and documents the Germans had hidden in 1945 plus items that had been cached 40 years earlier. Items recovered in this expedition are in the Forsvarsmuseet in Oslo.
